Ghost Note Audio uses NAM for Transistor Legacy Virtual

Steve

[This one's long overdue, but I think it's very cool.]

A while back, Ghost Note Audio released a software plugin called Transistor Legacy Virtual. The plugin contains Neural Amp Models of their (hardware) pedals so that potential customers can try them out at home under a variety of settings and get a "NAM-accurate" feeling for how they sound.

What makes me so excited about this is that this is a fantastic way for a company to make use of the accessibility & versatility of software-based audio effects to complement their main product offering. A challenge that companies making boutique effects can have is that it's hard for customers to find them in a store where they can try them out--and even if they can, a store can be a less-than-ideal place to try out a new piece of gear: you might not have your personal guitar with you, and you probably won't have the rest of your gear (amp, cab, etc) available either. With our options for gear getting better and better, musicians probably really want to make sure that what they're getting will do what they want.

Providing a plugin version of your product is the best solution to that problem that I'm aware of, and it's something that I think deserves to be more common.

Even if your rig uses a pedalboard instead of a laptop, it's not difficult to temporarily "patch" an audio interface and a laptop into the middle of your pedalboard and calibrate its I/O to get an accurate sense of exactly how the pedal would interact with the rest of your rig (and Ghost Note have helpfully provided a digital-to-analog calibration factor you can use to make sure that the models in the plugin are seeing the correct levels). Again, this is something that I think we'll be seeing more of as we move forward.

Also, if you don't prefer Ghost Note's plugin, the models are all provided as ".nam files" that are compatible with NeuralAmpModelerPlugin or any other of your favorite NAM-supporting products, so you can use them in a way you're comfortable.

Again, I think that this is a great way to use NAM, and I'm honored that Ghost Note have trusted it to accurately represent their products. I hope folks are inspired to check it out and support their company by picking something up that they discover.
